China is the last major country to adhere to a zero-Covid policy. They used rapid lockdowns, mass testing, extensive contact tracing and quarantine to eradicate infections as soon as they emerged.
During the visit of the G20 Summit in Bali, good news from China continued. The Chinese delegation said that they agreed to open up and prepare direct flights from China to Indonesia.
“This is a breath of fresh air. China is contributing to the recovery of the world,” said Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno in the Weekly Briefing, in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/15/2022).
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Chinese tourists rank second most after Malaysia in 2019. However, this year because there have been no visits from China, countries such as Australia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, England are the largest contributors of tourists to Indonesia.
To welcome back the arrival of tourists from China, Sandiaga has prepared several things.
“We are preparing quality and sustainable destinations so that Chinese tourists can shop for superior Indonesian products,” he explained.
Chinese tourists like marine tourism the most. While on vacation they will visit the beach to do snorkeling and diving activities. “Indonesia is rich in that. We maintain this existence by providing packages of 5 super priority destinations,” he explained.
In 2023, Indonesia is targeting 120 thousand Chinese tourists to visit. Garuda Indonesia airline is being prepared to fly directly from China to Indonesia.
